FYRE Orientation

2009

Past FYRE Orientations:

2007  |  2008  |  2009

I would just like to say that it would be nice to have more doorstops for move in next year!  Someone tried to steal ours because they didn't have one on our floor...Luckily, I CAUGHT them in the act!  :)  Thanks Much, Emily

This year, BSU is having an oriention program for ALL freshman and new-to-BSU students (transfers...).  We are mixing their orientation with some events of our own in order to keep some of our FYRE specialness and awesomeness.

Friday

9 am  Move In

3 pm  FYRE Welcome

  • possible locations (since M100 is already being used):  PE Gym, Fieldhouse
  • Program to include:  introduction of staff members and their roles, passing of the torch, ...

4 pm  FYE Instructors (students meet their FYE staff in the classroom where they will be having FYE Class--um, aren't there going to be some doubling ups?  Like, the Oak Classroom, for instance???)

Parent Panel--one for FYRE (with Dale) and one for the rest

5:30 pm  Official University Welcome--Fieldhouse

6:30 pm  Picnic--Oak Area, Fieldhouse as rainsite

8 pm  Floor Socials (and one for the commuters?)

9:30 pm  FYRE @ the Lake--chimney by Union, then either there or Diamond Point Park or Cameron Park for a little swim :)

Saturday

10 am  Brunch

11:15 am  Playfair (team building)

1 pm FYE Meetings (with PAA's especially)

2-8 pm  Ropes Course/Floor Meeting/Dinner and Break/Ice Breakers before going out to Ropes Course???

  • 3 Ropes Course shifts:  2-4 pm, 4-6 pm, 6-8 pm
  • Have no loss in transfer time by having students unload and load at the same time.  For example, at 4 pm, the bus will be out at Hobson Forest.  The 2nd group of people will unload the bus and the first group of people will load the bus and then be brought back to BSU.

7:30 pm Social (kind of like Sunsplash)

Sunday

11 am  FYRE @ Monster

12 pm  Lunch

1 pm/ 3 pm/ 6 pm  RMRW/Tours/Free Time

7 pm  Convocation Assembly

8 pm  Convocation

I tried to italicize what I knew to be FYRE-only events.  --Emily
